Hello! I am so excited to be working with the Walt Disney Magnet School team for my fifth year and look forward to collaborating with the amazing students and parents in this tight-knit community.
My interest and passion for teaching grew from an opportunity to earn service hours in high school by teaching a religious education class for elementary students. Instantly I was bitten by the teaching bug, and I enrolled at Indiana University earning a Secondary English Education degree. Since college I have worked in Naperville and taught English/Language Arts to students in grades 6,7, and 8. After having heard of the possibility to work at Disney, I am grateful that this dream came true. I strongly believe that in the 21st century, we should all commit to being life-long learners, and I try to model this notion to my students through my drive to constantly improve upon my knowledge and capabilities. I have earned a Master's in Curriculum and Instruction through Concordia University and have been a student at Loyola University to expand my certification in other subject areas.
All work would make me pretty dull, so in my "free" time I love to travel around the country and my goal is to visit all seven continents in the next 5 years. Having my summers off makes this possible! I have been lucky to already cross off North America, South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. With my adventurous spirit, I enjoy trying new and daring things and look forward to sharing some stories in class, when they can be applicable.
While getting away is always a welcomed opportunity, I couldn't imagine being far from Chicago for very long. I am very fortunate to have all five of my siblings and parents in the Chicago area, but I especially love spending time with my husband and son. This beautiful city also offers many opportunities for me to work on my photography skills and am grateful that there is always something to do and new restaurants to visit. Recommendations are always welcomed!
